I was always the guy in the group with a camera, and the one friends would ask "Hey, do you have any pictures from when we did X?" When we were all locked down, a friend asked if I could photograph her small intimate wedding. I said yes and immediately fell in love with the experience. I've also become addicted to witnessing that reaction couples share when they receive photos the'll love forever.
At my core, I am a documentary photographer. I focus on capturing candid and authentic moments. I believe the best way to tell the story of your wedding or event is through capturing natural interactions and genuine emotions.
My approach
A wedding day is filled with many significant, classic moments, but it's also filled with spontaneous in-between moments. To provide you with the best of both worlds, I take a hybrid approach to wedding photography by combining documentary and traditional photography.
Documentary wedding photography means capturing moments as they happen, not directing them. It means capturing tears, laughs, smiles and embraces. By using a documentary approach, I capture candid moments, reactions, and emotions to help record authentic and intimate events at your wedding.
However, there are absolutely classic moments in a wedding where a more hands-on approach is needed. This is where a traditional approach to photography shines. Unlike documentary photography, traditional wedding photography focuses on capturing those classic, timeless photos through more directed posing, with an editorial emphasis on the scene being flattering and perfect. A key example of traditional photography is posed family portraits. When my wife and I were planning our wedding and selecting a wedding photographer, she emphasized how important these portraits were to her and her family. That stuck with me, and I so I treat both documentary and traditional photography with equal importance.
My goal is for your wedding to not feel like a photoshoot. Photography is important, but weddings are about you and the people you love. Through technique, tools, and timing, I will ensure that my photography moves with the flow of your wedding. I’ll never need to block guests’ views to get a photo. If we step away for sunset or couples’ portraits, I will keep that time brief and efficient to make sure you don’t miss any time with your guests. My goal is for my photography to help preserve these moments forever, not to detract from your day.
